Prescriptions
Ordering repeat prescriptions
The easiest way to order and track your prescription is via the NHS App:
π Log in – NHS App Online (service.nhs.uk)
You can:
- Order repeat medications
- Check the status of your prescription
β³ Please allow up to 72 hours (3 working days) for your prescription to be processed before checking or contacting us.
If your pharmacy has not received your prescription after 72 hours, please contact reception.
Other Ways to Order
You can also:
- Post your repeat prescription slip in the letter box outside the surgery or hand into reception when we are open. Regardless of how the prescription is requested all repeat medications will have the same turn around time.Β
π We do not accept repeat prescription requests by telephone, unless you are:
- Elderly
- Housebound
Requesting Acute (One-Off) Medications
You can now request certain acute medications via our online digital front door. You can also request these in person or via the phone.
β This is for medications you have been prescribed before
β This is not for new medications
If you are requesting a medication you have never had before, you must complete a health form relating to your condition so we can assess your request safely.
Nominated Pharmacy (Important Information)
Most prescriptions are sent electronically to a nominated pharmacy.
What is a nominated pharmacy?
A nominated pharmacy is your chosen chemist where your prescriptions are sent automatically once processed.
How it works
- Your prescription will be sent directly to your nominated pharmacy by default
- You do not need to collect a paper prescription
Choosing or Changing Your Pharmacy
You can:
- Ask reception to set or change your nominated pharmacy
- Ask your pharmacy to set it for you
- Change it at any time
If you would prefer:
- A different pharmacy, or
- A printed (paper) prescription
π Please let us know when ordering
Important Reminder
Some online GP or pharmacy services may:
- Automatically change your nominated pharmacy
- Redirect prescriptions to delivery services
β This can update your pharmacy on our system without you realising
π We strongly recommend that you:
- Regularly check your nominated pharmacy
- Confirm it with your local pharmacist
Medication Reviews
We aim to review all patientsβ medications at least once per year.
We prioritise patients who are:
- On multiple medications (polypharmacy)
- Taking controlled drugs
- Using high-risk or potentially addictive medications
You may also be contacted as part of practice-wide safety campaigns (for example, around medications such as gabapentin or co-codamol).
π These are routine safety reviews and are not directed at any individual.
You can also request a medication review at any time with:
- A GP
- A practice pharmacist
Monitoring and Safety Checks
Many medications require regular monitoring to ensure they remain safe and effective.
This may include:
- Blood tests
- Blood pressure checks
- Weight (BMI) checks
- ECGs
π We ask you to work with us to complete these checks when requested.
Why Monitoring Is Important
Monitoring is essential to:
- Detect side effects early
- Ensure medications remain safe for you
- Prevent serious complications
Without appropriate monitoring, medications can become unsafe.
If Monitoring Is Not Completed
If monitoring is repeatedly not completed, we may need to:
- Issue shorter prescriptions (e.g. 2 weeks instead of 1 month)
- Temporarily move medications from repeat to acute prescribing
- Limit online ordering
This is not to be difficultβit is to ensure:
π Your safety and appropriate prescribing
As prescribers, we are responsible for ensuring medications are used safely in line with national guidance.
National Guidance
Our prescribing and monitoring processes follow national professional standards:
These guidelines require clinicians to:
- Prescribe safely
- Ensure appropriate monitoring
- Act to reduce risk where necessary
Working Together
We want to work with you to:
- Keep your treatment safe
- Ensure medications are effective
- Reduce unnecessary risks
By attending monitoring appointments and reviews, you are helping us provide the best possible care.
